Typically, I don’t get too excited about celebrity beauty brand launches, but when Cécred, the innovative hair-care line by Beyoncé and her mother, Miss Tina, made its debut in February 2024, it caught my attention. The Foundation Collection was a brilliant start for a brand designed to cater to all hair types. This collection includes eight essential wash day items, featuring a patent-pending bio-fermented keratin identical to human hair to repair damaged strands. The clarifying shampoo, deep conditioner, and protein treatment were among my favorites, emphasizing the importance of a clean scalp for healthy hair. If it’s good enough for Beyoncé, it’s definitely good enough for me.
The brand’s subsequent release, the Protection Collection, launched in August 2025, offered a fresh take with five solutions in elegant royal blue bottles, aiming to detoxify hair and scalp from installation to takedown. The Detangling Spray was exceptional for removing knotless braids and sew-ins, while the Scalp Refreshing Spray was surprisingly effective at cleaning without water. Despite my admiration for these collections, I longed for daily styling solutions approved by Beyoncé. To my delight, Cécred introduced a Styling Collection, which is now available for purchase.
The Cécred team viewed styling as a logical and crucial extension. “We’d already built a healthy foundation with our Foundation and Protection collections, and now with Styling, we can make sure the way we finish the hair supports everything that came before it,” explains Beyoncé’s hairstylist Neal Farinah. He noted that during development, performance and protection were key, and indeed, the collection excelled. It played a significant role in enhancing the superstar’s hair throughout her renowned Cowboy Carter tour.
“There’s nothing like facing the elements on tour,” Farinah shared with Vogue with a laugh. Whether dealing with sweat, humidity, wind, quick changes, multiple styles in a single night, or restyling the same section repeatedly, the products had to meet extraordinary standards. “If it couldn’t survive movement and moisture and still look incredible under lights in front of everyone, it didn’t make it. The tour was the best test, because we faced pretty much every element, we saw it all. And I have to say, the hair still looked so good through it all.”
The standout feature of this collection is its focus on maintaining style longevity without sacrificing hair health. Recognizing that styling can often lead to damage—through heat, tugging, pulling, and sleeking—the team aimed to protect the hair fiber’s structure with built-in protection across five styling goals: volume, definition, hold, smoothness, and longevity, according to Kari Williams, PhD, trichologist, and director of education at Cécred. This led to the creation of six stylers featuring the brand’s StemShield Complex, providing protection from heat up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit and humidity. Scientifically, this complex strengthens the hair fiber to style without compromising curl integrity.
The concept is straightforward—protecting hair during straightening for a lively blowout or sleek ponytail—but in reality, it’s more challenging. Dr. Williams explained that “maintaining movement while delivering robust protection and style longevity was the most technically complex piece of the puzzle,” as stronger hold and humidity resistance often involves heavy ingredients. However, each of the six stylers is remarkably lightweight.
During my initial trial of this collection, I met with the Cécred team and requested a combination of Cécred’s signature voluminous blowout and its sleek Silk Glaze style. After shampooing and conditioning, the Thermal Shield Mist was essential. It functions similarly to a traditional heat protectant, dispensing as a fine, non-sticky spray. Although I’m not usually a fan of mousse, I was curious to see how the Volumizing Mousse performed. It’s Farinah’s favorite product from the collection, providing touchable, flexible hold that doesn’t collapse. “You can use it for a big blowout, a roller set, diffusing curls, and more. I’ve used it for everything, from Beyoncé Bowl curls to big body Cécred blowouts.” The key is to apply it to damp hair and create tension as you dry with a round brush, allowing your hair to better maintain lift and curl.
