IMDb has recently announced the addition of 12 new professional credits to their platform, including categories such as intimacy coordination, choreography, craft services, puppetry, voice actor dubbing, and more. Previously, these credits were grouped under the generic “additional crew” section, but now they have been given their own specific categories. The other new credit categories include the color department, health and safety department, legal, production department, production finance and accounting, property department, and publicity.
With the introduction of these new credit categories, IMDb now boasts a total of 45 professional credit categories. This move signifies a step towards greater visibility for all entertainment industry professionals. Additionally, IMDb is now accepting credits for dubbing foreign-language versions of movies and TV shows, providing new opportunities for these professionals to showcase their work on a global scale.
These enhancements were developed in collaboration with leading industry organizations such as the Choreographers Guild, Colorist Society, I.A.T.S.E. Local 161, I.A.T.S.E. Local 871, National Association of Voice Actors (NAVA), Property Masters Guild, and SAG-AFTRA. IMDb plans to continue expanding professional credit categories and recognition opportunities based on feedback from the industry.
IMDb CEO Nikki Santoro expressed the importance of ensuring that every profession involved in the production of movies and TV shows receives equal recognition. She thanked IMDbPro customers and industry collaborators for their input in shaping these updates and looks forward to continuing this important work together.
Industry professionals have also voiced their support for these changes. SAG-AFTRA president Sean Astin emphasized the significance of crediting all contributors to a production accurately, not just for personal gratification but also as a professional resource for the industry. Mandy Moore, Executive Board Member of the Choreographers Guild, expressed gratitude for the inclusion of the choreography credit category on IMDb, acknowledging the respect it brings to their profession.
The Colorist Society, represented by president Kevin Shaw, welcomed the new credit category for color finishing artists, highlighting the importance of recognizing the unique role they play in filmmaking. Similarly, Molly Merrell, President of I.A.T.S.E. Local 161, praised the addition of production department and production finance and accounting credit categories, acknowledging the valuable contributions these departments make to productions.
Overall, these changes represent a meaningful step towards showcasing the diversity and breadth of creative work that often goes unrecognized in the entertainment industry. IMDb has already begun migrating existing credits to the new categories, with updates expected to be completed by November 9th. The expanded options for dubbing credits also reflect the growing global interest in international content and the professionals who bring these stories to life. IMDb now accepts credits for dubbing into languages such as English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish.
