In this chaotic and challenging world, do we lean toward satire or light-heartedness? For the artistic pair known as Murmure (previously), both paths are valid.
The duo from Caen, France, showcases a new series of paintings and charcoal illustrations in their aptly named exhibition, La fête est finie, translating to The party is over. With a distinct blend of humor and irony, they reimagine astronauts as fashion icons, the moon as a nuclear facility, and a birthday cake as a wild forest blaze.
Instead of presenting everyday scenes or instances of carefree joy, Murmure opts for disquieting imagery. Every questionable choice—whether it’s sunbathing under a UV light or observing cows on an ice floe—serves as a striking critique of our collective fascination with consumer culture, environmental degradation, and self-indulgent consumption.
La fête est finie will be displayed until November 22 at Galerie LJ in Paris. Explore more about the artists on their website and Instagram.
