Evening of Violence in NYC: Innocent Girl Shot, Man Stabbed
In a troubling turn of events on Sunday evening, a young girl was shot by a stray bullet and a man was stabbed in two separate incidents that occurred mere minutes and just a few blocks apart in New York City. Law enforcement officials are currently investigating these shocking acts of violence, which unfolded shortly after the conclusion of the Mexican Day Parade in the area.
According to the NYPD, the first incident involved a 17-year-old girl who was shot in the left shoulder at the intersection of 27th Street and Park Avenue in the Rose Hill neighborhood around 5:01 p.m. Sources indicate that she was an unintended victim amid the chaos of gunfire.
Just a minute prior to the shooting, a 24-year-old man was stabbed in the right buttocks at 28th Street and Madison Avenue, as per police reports. Both individuals were transported to Bellevue Hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities have confirmed that a person of interest is in custody for the shooting incident involving the teenage girl. This individual, who reportedly has over 20 prior arrests, has not yet been formally charged.
Meanwhile, there has been no apprehension related to the stabbing of the 24-year-old man, and that case remains open.
These violent acts occurred about an hour after the vibrant celebrations of the Mexican Day Parade wrapped up nearby. Investigators are working diligently to unravel both cases, but at this point, police do not believe they are connected to one another.
