Following Andrew’s arrest, King Charles III addressed the matter in a statement released on Majesty Magazine‘s X account.
“I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office,” the monarch stated. “What now follows is the full, fair, and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities. In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation.”
Charles continued, “Let me state clearly: the law must take its course. As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter. Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all. Charles R.”
According to the BBC, neither Charles nor Buckingham Palace was “informed in advance” of the arrest. Royal family members reportedly carried on with “business as usual,” unaware of Andrew’s impending custody, as reported by The Times.
Meanwhile, Prince William and Kate Middleton are supporting Charles and do not plan to release a separate statement regarding Andrew’s legal issues.
Queen Camilla, for her part, refrained from commenting on the situation while fulfilling her role as royal patron of Sinfonia Smith Square Hall in London.
“Are you concerned about Andrew’s arrest, your Majesty?” an individual inquired, but Camilla remained silent.
