Kelly Clarkson is opening up about how she is helping her children cope with the loss of their father, Brandon Blackstock. In a recent Q&A on The Kelly Clarkson Show YouTube channel, the singer shared that her favorite daily joy is spending quiet time with her daughter River and son Remy.
Clarkson, 43, revealed that she cherishes the moments when she can “snuggle” with her kids. “My kids, they’re 9 and 11. Kind of that special little fun stage where they can wipe their own behinds, but they’re still small enough to love cuddling and snuggles,” she shared on Saturday, January 10. “There’s been a lot for our family recently, and so I have allowed my kids to sleep with me quite a bit. So it’s my two dogs, my two kids, and me. It’s been really special, though, because the conversations you have during that time are pretty cute. So that’s probably my favorite time of day.”
Despite the passing of Blackstock in August 2025 at the age of 48 after battling melanoma for three years, he remained a part of their children’s lives despite a messy divorce.
According to a source, Clarkson is not taking finding a new partner lightly. She has made a list of qualities she is looking for in a man and has shared it with friends such as ex-mother-in-law Reba McEntire, former mentor Simon Cowell, and close pal Jennifer Aniston. The insider revealed that Clarkson is looking for a man who already has children so she can see his parenting skills in action, as he may eventually play a fatherly role for her kids if the relationship progresses.
The source also mentioned that Clarkson is not concerned with a potential partner’s job or salary, as she is financially secure with an estimated net worth of $50 million following her divorce. “She has more money than she will ever need and doesn’t want that to be a barrier to finding love,” the source explained.
Kelly Clarkson continues to prioritize her children’s well-being and is taking steps to navigate life as a single parent while also being open to the possibility of finding love again in the future.
