Staffers at KTLA have revealed a sense of fear within the Los Angeles station following the dismissal of a group of prominent on-air personalities. Anchors Ellina Abovian, Glen Walker, and Lu Parker, along with longtime meteorologist Mark Kriski and weathercaster Kacey Montoya, were among those let go in the recent cuts.

The layoffs are said to be driven by parent company Nexstar Media Group as it moves forward with the acquisition of Tegna, a media company based in Virginia. Employees at KTLA expressed feeling “sick” and likened the situation to losing five friends.

One insider mentioned that those who had to take over the roles of the terminated employees felt uneasy about it. The layoffs were described in detail, with Abovian reportedly being let go right after finishing an on-air report from LAX. Abovian, who had been with the station for 11 years, shared her emotional reaction on Instagram after being fired on her 40th birthday.

Another insider revealed that Montoya was informed of her termination while she was at home on a sick day. The source mentioned that high-earning individuals were being targeted, with younger reporters being brought in as replacements. This created a sense of unease and insecurity among the remaining staff.
