Mary, 52, was discovered deceased on the family’s New York property on May 16, 2012.
Following her passing, the family released a statement expressing their sorrow: “We deeply regret the death of our beloved sister Mary, whose radiant and creative spirit will be sorely missed by those who loved her.”
The medical examiner determined the cause of death to be asphyxiation due to hanging, ruling it a suicide.
An insider revealed to The New York Post that Mary was struggling, abusing alcohol and prescription medications, and felt discarded by Bobby. “That was awful,” the insider added.
The divorce between Mary and RFK Jr. remained incomplete at the time of her death.
An email from the Department of Justice disclosed a startling reaction from Jeffrey Epstein to Mary’s suicide. On May 16, 2012, Eva Dubin wrote, “Mary Kennedy found dead in her backyard….” to which Epstein replied, “whoops.”
New insights into Mary’s death in 2012 are revealed in the book RFK, Jr.: The Fall and Rise by investigative journalist Isabel Vincent.
According to the book, Kennedy, with Mary’s friend Shannon White, found her body in the barn after being informed by the housekeeper that Mary was missing. Kennedy made the emergency call to 911. The medical examiner’s report noted that her fingers were trapped between her neck and the noose at the time of her death.
Upon learning this detail, Mary’s doctor reportedly commented, “Maybe she really didn’t want to die,” as mentioned by the reporter.
White informed the police that RFK Jr. had contacted her that morning, expressing concern that Mary “may have hurt herself.”
