Nutrition plays a crucial role in managing autoimmune conditions, and WellTheory, a holistic care platform for individuals with autoimmune diseases, has partnered with Instacart to improve access to anti-inflammatory and nutritious food. This collaboration will integrate Instacart Health’s Fresh Funds program with WellTheory’s platform, allowing patients to use Instacart’s technology to purchase recommended foods to enhance their health.
Recently, WellTheory secured $14 million in funding through their Series A round led by General Catalyst. The platform aims to provide comprehensive care for autoimmune disease patients by offering services such as 1:1 dietitian consults, personalized care plans, easy access to appointments, and various testing options. WellTheory also works with employers to provide coverage for members with autoimmune conditions, leading to significant cost savings and improved outcomes for patients.
With access to Instacart’s program, nearly 300,000 patients in WellTheory’s network can now receive grocery stipends to purchase clinically recommended foods directly through Instacart. This partnership ensures that patients have convenient access to the nutrition they need for their autoimmune journey. Instacart’s Vice President of Health, Sarah Mastrorocco, shares the company’s mission to enhance grocery access and convenience for communities, aligning with WellTheory’s goal to support patients with autoimmune conditions.
The increasing prevalence of autoimmune diseases calls for more advocacy, awareness, education, and research in this area. Managing lifestyle factors like diet and environmental exposures is crucial since many autoimmune diseases lack cures. Studies have shown that nutrition plays a central role in triggering and managing autoimmune conditions, highlighting the importance of addressing dietary needs in patient care.
As the rates of autoimmune conditions continue to rise, companies like Kyverna and Attune Health are focusing on developing therapies and providing specialized care for patients with autoimmune diseases. Healthcare organizations are also investing in specialty clinics to cater to the unique needs of these patients, recognizing the importance of tailored care for autoimmune conditions.
With approximately 15 million people in the US affected by autoimmune diseases, there is a growing need for increased awareness, resources, and research in this field. The collaboration between WellTheory and Instacart is just one example of efforts to improve access to essential resources for individuals managing autoimmune conditions, signaling a positive step towards better support and care for this patient population.
