Carjacking Team Strikes in Logan Square, Linked to Stolen SUV from Indiana

According to a Chicago police report, a carjacking incident took place in Logan Square early Saturday morning where a carjacking team stole a man’s vehicle at gunpoint. Shockingly, the perpetrators arrived in an SUV that had just been carjacked in Gary, Indiana.

The victim, a 37-year-old man, was ambushed as he entered his vehicle at the BP station located at 1950 North California Avenue around 3:15 a.m. The police spokesperson revealed that a group of armed men emerged from an SUV and demanded control of the victim’s car.

After successfully stealing the victim’s 2014 Chevy Impala, the carjackers fled the scene followed by the stolen SUV, an orange Chevy Trax, which had been hijacked in Gary. Both vehicles were spotted traveling together on the outbound Dan Ryan Expressway near 71st Street shortly after the carjacking.

Law enforcement officers later discovered both vehicles abandoned near each other in the 9200 block of South Sangamon Street.

An officer who was present at the gas station during the incident described the carjackers as four Black males who had their faces covered. Preliminary information indicated that at least one of them was armed with a rifle, while another had a pistol.

Prior to this carjacking, another armed robbery occurred in the West Loop. Three armed men brandishing guns robbed four individuals on Lake Street near Halsted Street around 1 a.m.

The robbers fled in a silver or gray Toyota Camry and were described as four Black males wearing ski masks, all armed. Shortly after the robbery, an attempt was made to use the victims’ credit cards at a gas station in the 1200 block of West 87th Street.

While reports of robberies have decreased in the city, the West Loop area has seen a rise in such incidents during June. In one particular case, a concealed carry permit holder fired shots at armed individuals who were trying to break into his vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
