The Revolutionary Guards of Iran issued a warning to Israel, threatening to launch “crushing attacks” in response to any retaliation for a missile strike on Tuesday.

In a statement carried by the Fars news agency, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated, “If the Zionist regime reacts to Iranian operations, it will face crushing attacks.”

Reports from state media indicated that Iran had launched a missile attack targeting Tel Aviv, Israel’s commercial hub, on Tuesday evening.

Prior to the attack, the United States had warned of an imminent Iranian ballistic missile strike against Israel, cautioning that there would be severe consequences for Tehran.

Online footage from Iranian media purportedly showed missiles being launched towards Israel, with state television broadcasting celebratory music and the anchor praising “the brave Iranian people”.

This recent attack marked Iran’s second strike on Israel, following a previous missile and drone attack in April in retaliation for an Israeli airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus. The majority of munitions in that attack were intercepted by Israel and its allies.

A separate Israeli strike in Beirut resulted in the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and General Abbas Nilforoushan, a senior commander of the Quds Force, the foreign operations branch of the Guards. Iran vowed to retaliate for Nilforoushan’s death.

During the UN General Assembly in New York, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian accused Israel of warmongering, claiming that Iran had shown restraint despite provocations. He mentioned holding back retaliation for the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in July to avoid disrupting US-backed efforts for a Gaza ceasefire.

Pezeshkian later denounced promises of a ceasefire in exchange for Iran’s non-reaction to Haniyeh’s killing as false, stating that giving Israel a chance to commit crimes would only embolden them further.
