The beloved BookTok romance, Boys of Tommen, is being adapted for Prime Video. Created by Irish author Chloe Walsh, the series has gained significant attention, with fans eagerly anticipating the on-screen portrayal of the touching romance between Johnny Kavanagh and Shannon Lynch.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that Boys of Tommen will be available on Prime Video in 2027. Like the book, the series will feature eight episodes and will be produced by several companies known for popular young adult adaptations like Twilight and The Summer I Turned Pretty.
Boys of Tommen is based on Chloe Walsh’s bestselling book series, a favorite among BookTok users, focusing on the story of Johnny Kavanagh and Shannon Lynch at Tommen College in Ireland.
What is the origin of Prime Video’s Boys of Tommen?
The series is derived from Chloe Walsh’s original Boys of Tommen books, which gained immense popularity on BookTok. Readers were captivated by the emotional edits and reviews of the love story, as well as the darker themes explored.
The narrative begins in the fictional Irish town of Ballylaggin in 97/98 and is primarily set in Tommen College, an exclusive private school where complex dynamics of friendships, relationships, rugby culture, and family issues unfold.
The first season of Boys of Tommen will cover the initial two books: Binding 13 and Keeping 13. These stories explore the bond between Johnny Kavanagh, a talented rugby player facing a challenging injury, and Shannon Lynch, who struggles with an abusive home and school bullying.
Prime Video executives describe the adaptation as capturing the essence of first love, family challenges, and issues like mental health, bullying, and resilience. The genuine emotion and realism of the books have been pivotal in establishing the series as a global phenomenon.
Poppy Cogan is serving as a producer, writer, and editor for the show.
Chloe Walsh, who is also an executive producer, expressed her excitement about the international reception of her books and her satisfaction with a creative team committed to authentic storytelling.
