The television show Sullivan’s Crossing has experienced unexpected cast changes and plot developments. Is the popular series set to return for its fourth season?
Inspired by Robyn Carr’s book series, Sullivan’s Crossing chronicles the journey of neurosurgeon Maggie, portrayed by Morgan Kohan, as she returns to her rural Nova Scotia hometown. There, she reconnects with her estranged father, Sully, played by Scott Patterson, and meets newcomer Cal, portrayed by Chad Michael Murray, along with other community members.
Previously renewed for a fourth season, Sullivan’s Crossing premiered on March 22, 2026, on CTV. Following its Canadian broadcast, the series will be available on The CW starting April 20, 2026, and is expected to arrive on Netflix in the summer, once its cable broadcast concludes.
In March, before the new season aired, Us Weekly reported that Patterson would not be returning to his role for season 4.
“Season 3 of Sullivan’s Crossing concluded with Sully embarking on a new chapter in Ireland. Season 4 continues the story the following day with Sully still abroad,” said executive producer and showrunner Roma Roth in an exclusive statement to Us. “Although he is not physically present this season, the character remains a significant part of the narrative, with potential for future involvement, depending on creative direction.”
Patterson indicated that creative differences led to his unexpected exit, as he mentioned on Instagram, “The creative differences were becoming untenable, and I just sadly realized that the show was not something that I could agree to continue.”
Patterson clarified that leaving Sullivan’s Crossing was not his decision. “It’s unfortunate that it is now being implied that they moved on from me/Sully when the fact is the complete opposite, and those who sadly already have spoken out are also fully aware of this fact, and yet chose to say otherwise,” he stated. “I was not intending to make any statement, but the fans of the books and the show deserve to know the truth as I have always been respectful of those who support this industry by watching and loving these characters we are so dang lucky and blessed to portray and bring to life.”
Seasons 1 through 3 of Sullivan’s Crossing are available for streaming on Netflix. Season 4 is set to premiere on The CW on April 20 at 8 p.m. ET.
