Tony Finau, the talented American golfer, has decided to skip the Black Desert Championship this week in order to fulfill his coaching duties. Finau, who is the assistant coach for the Thanksgiving Point All-Stars team, will be coaching junior golfers at the National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Championship from October 10 to 13 in Texas. This commitment has led him to forgo participating in the Black Desert Championship, a PGA Tour event taking place in Utah during the same period.

In a statement, Finau expressed his dedication to coaching, stating, “It was a tough decision but it really wasn’t a decision at all. I’m committed to being a coach and I’ve got to help coach the team.” Despite the allure of competing in a professional tournament, Finau prioritizes his role in mentoring young golfers and guiding them in their development.

The Black Desert Championship boasts a strong field of players, including notable names like Keith Mitchell, Seamus Power, and Kurt Kitayama. With a full-size field and competitive lineup, the tournament promises exciting golf action for fans and spectators.

As for Finau’s performance in 2024, the seasoned golfer has participated in 22 PGA Tour events, making the cut in 20 of them. While he hasn’t secured a victory this season, Finau’s consistent performances have earned him five top-10 finishes, with his best result being a runner-up finish at the Texas Children’s Houston Open. He finished 23rd in the FedEx Cup standings after the Tour Championship, securing his spot for the 2025 season on the PGA Tour.

In terms of earnings, Finau amassed $5,706,467 from the PGA Tour in 2024, showcasing his competitiveness and skill on the tour. With a strong foundation laid this season, Finau looks forward to continuing his success and making an impact both on and off the course as a dedicated coach and player.

Overall, Tony Finau’s decision to prioritize coaching over competition demonstrates his commitment to nurturing the next generation of golfers while also striving for excellence in his own career.
