Continuing from her previous fall show, Kim Bekker sets a clear vision for the upcoming spring season. “I wanted to take a step back and refocus on our fundamentals, on what makes Marant so cool, but she’s more grown-up now,” the creative director expressed during a showroom visit.
With much discussion around restraint in future collections, Bekker seems to embrace this concept. The spring line aims to showcase colors that define the silhouette, featuring shades like pale neutrals, red, brown, and black. For instance, these colors are expertly applied to a leather utility blazer, a simply draped ecru jersey dress, and cropped trousers.
“It’s more about attitude and proportion, a need for freshness,” Bekker explained regarding a sharp jacket crafted from coated canvas that mimics leather. The trousers, designed with a looser fit at the top and slimming through the leg, exuded a relaxed and cool vibe, similar to the barrel-cut red leather pants. Materials such as technical nylon blousons and featherweight fabrics offer lightness and structure, ideal for a warming world. Embellishments are subtle yet present, with hints of shine and animal-inspired designs, like abstract tiger stripes on a linen blouse and a faux-fur coat resembling a cocoon.
While the clothing designs are minimal, the designer placed more emphasis on accessories, introducing latticed sandals, the classic cleavage shoe, hand-woven belts, and the Mavea tote crafted from raffia. The leopard Pipa bag is expected to appeal to Marant enthusiasts, alongside the season’s hoop earrings and etched bangles.
Through simplification, Bekker appears to be steering the brand toward a more distinct and coherent expression suitable for the current climate. Although she maintained a concise narrative, Bekker demonstrated her mastery of the casual, sexy, bohemian style that has solidified Isabel Marant as a beloved name in fashion for over three decades.
