A 29-year-old teacher at a Catholic school in Italy has been suspended after it was discovered that she was working as an OnlyFans model. Elena Maraga was reportedly selling content on the adult website, which was brought to light by a parent who saw her profile and shared it with other parents on WhatsApp and Facebook, as per a report in The Telegraph.
Following the complaint, the school administration took action against Ms. Maraga, who defended herself by stating that her activities outside of work did not harm anyone and that her monthly salary of 1,200 euros (approximately Rs 1.1 lakh) was insufficient.
“That’s why I had already considered other career options. I have friends who earn well. I thought that I’m proud of my physical appearance and enjoy showcasing it,” she explained to Italian media.
Despite having a degree in Educational Sciences and five years of experience in a Catholic nursery school, Ms. Maraga claimed that she earns more through her online endeavors than her teaching job. She mentioned that she joined OnlyFans out of curiosity and for fun, noting that she earns a month’s salary in just one day.
As a result of the controversy, the Italian education ministry is working on a new code of ethics that would prohibit teachers from engaging in activities on adult websites to uphold the reputation of their schools.

Social media response
After the news spread, social media users shared varying opinions on the situation. Some defended Ms. Maraga’s right to privacy, suggesting that her personal life should not affect her profession. Others believed that teachers should uphold a certain standard of behavior for their students.
Last year, YouTuber Zara Dar made headlines for leaving her PhD program to pursue a career on OnlyFans. In a video titled “PhD dropout to OnlyFans model,” Ms. Dar explained her decision as a strategic career move and a leap of faith towards her future.
