AB de Villiers, the legendary player for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), recently criticized the commentators for their negative remarks about his former team during the IPL 2025 clash against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Tuesday, May 27. De Villiers expressed his frustration towards the commentators’ focus on criticizing RCB’s bowlers without considering the pitch conditions.

The match saw LSG, led by their captain Rishabh Pant’s exceptional innings of 118* off 61 balls, setting a challenging target of 227/3 in 20 overs. However, RCB responded impressively by chasing down the target in just 18.4 overs with six wickets in hand. This successful run chase marked RCB’s highest-ever in franchise history.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, De Villiers voiced his displeasure with the commentators, stating that they were too quick to criticize RCB’s bowling unit without acknowledging the favorable batting conditions. He emphasized the need for a more thorough analysis of the game rather than relying on a preconceived narrative of RCB’s struggles in the IPL.

De Villiers highlighted the exceptional batting display by Rishabh Pant and the LSG team, emphasizing that such a high score on a difficult pitch indicated the quality of the batting surface. He urged the commentators to consider the possibility that the pitch was conducive to batting rather than solely blaming RCB’s bowlers for the runs conceded.

The victory propelled RCB to second place on the points table, giving them two opportunities to qualify for the final. De Villiers further emphasized that RCB’s performance was commendable considering the challenging pitch conditions and the opposition’s strong batting display.

Looking ahead, RCB will face the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 1 at Mullanpur on Thursday, May 29. The team will be aiming to replicate their success from the IPL 2016 season when De Villiers and Virat Kohli played crucial roles in their impressive campaign.

In conclusion, AB de Villiers’ criticism of the commentators sheds light on the importance of considering all factors, including pitch conditions, when analyzing a cricket match. RCB’s remarkable victory against LSG showcased their resilience and ability to adapt to different challenges in the IPL tournament.
