Rick Devens was initially set to make a cameo appearance in James Gunn’s film “Man of Tomorrow,” but had to prioritize filming commitments with “Big Brother.”
James Gunn disclosed this after Devens acknowledged the DC Studios co-head during a live broadcast of “Big Brother” Season 28’s Thursday eviction episode. Gunn shared the broadcast clip on social media, prompting a follower to inquire if Devens would appear in the “Superman” sequel.
“No because he’s on ‘Big Brother’! Otherwise he would have been,” Gunn responded on Threads.
When another Threads user asked if Gunn and Devens were acquainted, Gunn replied, “We do. He was gonna appear in the background of ‘MoT’ but he had to cancel (his awesome wife and kids still came). He couldn’t tell me why but told me I’d be excited. Obviously I was!”
The “Survivor” alum Devens was one of three surprise houseguests introduced during the “Big Brother” Season 28 premiere. This season also includes Dee Valladares, Angela Murray, Jason De Puy, Kamuela “Kamu” Kirk, Ashley Trail, Barrett Pfeiffer, Chuk Anyanwu, Drew Campbell, Haley Thogmartin, LaTrice Verrett, Lyric Medeiros, Mallory Aurichio, Melody Morris, Rome Seymour, Taylor Brown, and Yash Patel.
The contestants of “Big Brother” compete for a $750,000 cash prize. The show airs on CBS on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays from 8-9 p.m. ET/PT and is available to stream on Paramount+ after airing.
“Man of Tomorrow” serves as the sequel to Gunn’s “Superman,” which premiered in theaters in July 2025. David Corenswet will reprise his role as Superman, with Nicholas Hoult playing Lex Luthor. The film is scheduled for release on July 9, 2027.
