Representative Raskin, a Democrat from Maryland, made these remarks in light of President Trump’s upcoming military parade and amidst nationwide protests against authoritarianism on Saturday. Trump had previously threatened to use excessive force against protestors at the parade.
Raskin also criticized recent attacks on dissent by the Trump administration, such as the handcuffing of Senator Alex Padilla at Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s press conference and the treatment of Representative LaMonica McIver.
