Jason Momoa’s Epic Series “Chief of War” to Premiere on Apple TV+

Jason Momoa‘s highly anticipated historical epic series “Chief of War” has officially set its premiere date on Apple TV+. The drama series will kick off with its first two episodes on August 1st, followed by weekly releases until September 19th. Based on true events, the nine-episode series will delve into the story of warrior Ka’iana, portrayed by Momoa, as he endeavors to unite the islands prior to Western colonization in the late 18th century.

The stellar cast of “Chief of War” includes Luciane Buchanan, Temuera Morrison, Te Ao o Hinepehinga, Cliff Curtis, Kaina Makua, Moses Goods, Siua Ikale’o, Brandon Finn, James Udom, Mainei Kinimaka, and Te Kohe Tuhaka.

“Chief of War” was first commissioned by Apple in 2022, marking Momoa’s second collaboration with the streaming platform after the successful post-apocalyptic series “See,” which ran for three seasons.

Momoa co-created the show alongside Thomas Pa’a Sibbett, both of whom have native Hawaiian ancestry. They also serve as executive producers, with Momoa taking on the directorial duties for the season finale. Doug Jung is the showrunner and executive producer, while a stellar lineup of executive producers includes Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Tracey Cook, Brian Mendoza, Anders Engstrom, Jim Rowe, Molly Allen, Francis Lawrence, and Tim Van Patten. Justin Chon directed the first two episodes and serves as an executive producer. The studio behind the series is Fifth Season.

For Momoa, this project marks his television writing debut, having previously showcased his talents in writing, directing, and starring in the film “Road to Paloma” in 2014. He and Pa’a Sibbett also collaborated on the story for the feature film “The Last Manhunt,” with Momoa appearing in a supporting role. Additionally, Momoa starred in the action-thriller “Braven” in 2018, which was co-written by Pa’a Sibbett.
