Jill Zarin, a well-known original cast member of “The Real Housewives of New York City,” has found herself in hot water after being fired from the E! reunion series “The Golden Life” before the show even began production. The decision to let Zarin go was made by Blink49 Studios, the show’s producers, following a controversial statement she made on Instagram.
In a statement released by Blink49 Studios through E!, they explained their decision to cut ties with Zarin: “In light of recent public comments made by Jill Zarin, Blink49 Studios has decided not to move forward with her involvement in ‘The Golden Life.’ We remain committed to delivering the series in line with our company standards and values.”
The incident that led to Zarin’s firing occurred on Super Bowl Sunday, after the halftime show performance by Bad Bunny. Zarin took to Instagram to express her disapproval of the show, stating that it was inappropriate to have a performance in Spanish during the 250th anniversary celebration of the United States. She also criticized Bad Bunny for grabbing his crotch during the performance and suggested that it was a political statement. Zarin’s comments sparked outrage within the Bravo community, with several cast members from other shows condemning her remarks on social media.
This latest setback is just one in a series of challenges faced by the original cast members of “The Real Housewives of New York City.” After a tumultuous 13th season in 2021 that was marred by racism, Bravo decided to put the show on hold. Plans were then made to reboot the show with a new cast, while the original cast members were supposed to get their own series. However, contract negotiations and demands from veterans like Zarin caused complications, leading to the poorly received “Ultimate Girls Trip” on Peacock in December 2023.
Zarin’s firing has shed light on the strained relationship between the original cast members and Bravo, with executive producer Andy Cohen acknowledging that Zarin and other former cast members are no longer employed by the network. Even Zarin Fabrics, the fabric store once owned by Zarin’s late husband, Bobby, distanced itself from Jill by posting a statement on their Instagram account condemning racism and discrimination.
Overall, Zarin’s controversial remarks have not only cost her a role on “The Golden Life” but have also highlighted the challenges faced by the original cast members of “The Real Housewives of New York City” as they navigate a changing landscape within the Bravo universe.
