Jimmy Kimmel, the host of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, started Tuesday’s episode with a touching tribute to his childhood friend and late-night bandleader Cleto Escobedo III, who passed away at the age of 59. Kimmel, visibly emotional, expressed the difficulty of delivering this particular monologue, highlighting the special bond he shared with Escobedo.

The tribute was accompanied by photos from their childhood in Las Vegas, evoking memories of their close friendship. Escobedo’s parents, who are also part of Kimmel’s band, were present in the audience and deeply moved by the heartfelt tribute.

Kimmel reminisced about their childhood adventures and mischievous antics, showcasing the strong connection they shared from a young age. He revealed how he convinced the producers to bring Escobedo on board as the bandleader for the show, despite initial doubts about the unconventional choice. However, Escobedo and his father impressed everyone during the audition, securing their roles on the show for the past 23 years.

Describing Escobedo as the “nicest, most humble, kind, and always funny person,” Kimmel expressed the devastation felt by everyone at the show over his untimely passing. As a mark of respect, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” will be taking a break in the coming days to mourn the loss of their beloved friend and colleague.

Kimmel had to cancel Thursday’s episode abruptly to attend to Escobedo as his condition worsened. Sharing the news of Escobedo’s death on Instagram, Kimmel urged everyone to cherish their friends and offered prayers for Escobedo’s family. This week’s episodes, themed around the 80s, featured notable guests like Eddie Murphy and Morgan Fairchild.

This isn’t the first time Kimmel has taken a personal day, as he previously took time off when his son underwent treatment for a heart defect. Known for his loyalty to friends and family, Kimmel prioritized the well-being of his loved ones in this difficult time, demonstrating his unwavering support and care.

The tribute video from the show captures the essence of Kimmel’s deep connection with Escobedo and serves as a poignant reminder of the impact of true friendship. As the show pays homage to a cherished member of their team, the audience is reminded of the importance of treasuring those closest to us.
