Jimmy Kimmel recently took aim at Donald Trump’s commemorative medallions and coins, which are reportedly priced as high as $12,000 each for a UFC fight scheduled on the White House lawn on June 14. The late-night host pointed out that these items have “no face value.”
“You really have to hand it to Trump,” Kimmel remarked during his Wednesday monologue on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” “I mean, it takes a special kind of con man to sell your supporters money they cannot spend any place.”
Kimmel also mentioned that Trump, who faced loud boos at Monday’s Knicks-Spurs NBA Finals game at Madison Square Garden, opted not to attend Game 4. “He elected to fart-nap at home tonight,” Kimmel quipped. “He decided to stay home and get booed by his wife.”
Continuing, Kimmel said Trump is preparing for a big UFC-themed birthday celebration on the White House lawn this weekend. The event is being marketed as a celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, even though it coincides with Trump’s 80th birthday. “We’re holding a Fourth of July party on June 14th,” he added.
The comedian then addressed the expensive UFC mementos: “In case you’re wondering what kind of gift to give the president, it just so happens that the Trump family is offering a special commemorative coin with his head on it for this UFC event for the low, low price of only $11,999 and 99 cents.” Kimmel showed a picture of the medallion, humorously noting, “You can see though it’s a beautiful coin. ‘Julius UF-Caesar’ is pictured.”
Kimmel explained that the coin is one ounce of “pure PF70-rated gold.” He claimed that an ounce of PF70-rated gold in coin form “without his head on it” typically costs about $4,500. “So this is a deal,” he joked.
“If you read the fine print, which they would prefer you do not do, you will learn that the coin is intended ‘for individual enjoyment only’ and ‘not for investment purposes,’” Kimmel stated. The disclaimer also notes: “This is not political, has nothing to do with any political campaign” and the coin “is not legal tender and has no face value.”
Kimmel mentioned that the White House “rejects any suggestions that the president’s family profiting off an event he forced onto the White House grounds is a conflict of interest.” He then read a statement from White House spokesman Davis Ingle: “‘The Fake News’ continued attempts to fabricate conflicts of interest are irresponsible and reinforce the public’s distrust in what they read.” Kimmel humorously concluded, “And that’s why they should all get themselves a Trump Bible and repent — starting at only $59.99!”
