Former President Joe Biden is currently undergoing a five-week course of radiation therapy as part of his prostate cancer treatment, his office confirmed on Saturday.
Alongside hormone medication, the radiation was recently added to his cancer management plan, as stated by a spokesperson for the 82-year-old former president to NBC News.
According to his team, the 46th president is “doing well” amidst his ongoing treatment.
In May, Biden’s post-presidential office made it public that he is facing an aggressive variant of prostate cancer.
He also underwent a procedure in early September to eliminate cancer cells from his skin.
Biden left the presidency at the age of the oldest serving president amid ongoing concerns regarding his health and mental capability, which arose after a challenging debate that led him to forgo a reelection bid.
The one-term president and former vice president has kept a relatively low profile while managing his health issues.
Despite this, he has continued conversations with California’s Governor Gavin Newsomâwho was a prominent campaign supporter defending Biden during his previous struggles last year, reports The Washington Post.
Additionally, he has met with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT), according to the report.
Biden will turn 83 next month.
News regarding his radiation treatment surfaced just hours after President Trump visited Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for what the White House doctor described as a “semi-annual” physical examination.
During this visit, Trump received both a COVID-19 and flu vaccination ahead of his planned trip to Israel and Egypt on Sunday.
At 79, Trump is reported to be in “exceptional health,” according to his physician, Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella. This evaluation was a “scheduled follow-up” and part of an “ongoing health maintenance plan,” Barbabella mentioned.
Trump’s cardiac age, which takes into account various health risk factors, was indicated to be approximately 14 years younger than his actual age.
This physical check-up comes after a previous appointment in July, where the White House disclosed that Trump experienced chronic venous insufficiency, which resulted in mild swelling in his lower legs and ankles.
