In a recent conversation with BBC special correspondent James Naughtie, former US Secretary of State John Kerry delivered remarks that are unlikely to win him any accolades at his next globalist soirĂ©e. Kerry candidly reflected on the current state of immigration policy, suggesting that his own party, the Democrats, has allowed the US-Mexico border to be “under siege” during President Biden’s administration, a statement that could send shivers down the spines of many party loyalists.
Kerry was forthright in his assessment, asserting that the Democratic Party has historically “missed” the mark on immigration issues. “I made it very clear to President Biden that I believe the Democrats have overlooked the immigration situation for several years,” he told Naughtie.
“They simply allowed the border to remain under siege,” he continued, issuing a call to action that is rarely heard in Democratic circles.
“The first priority for any president – or anyone in public life – should be that without a secure border, you don’t have a nation,” Kerry asserted. “I sincerely wish President Biden had been more vocal in saying, ‘I’m going to enforce the law.’”
This sentiment echoes a familiar mantra championed by former President Trump, who has made border security a cornerstone of his political narrative, and it is a theme that is now firmly embedded in the 2024 Republican Party platform.
However, Democrats, many of whom advocate for more lenient immigration laws and pathways to citizenship for those undocumented, have historically framed Trump’s stances as excessively harsh and discriminatory.
According to Kerry, this was an oversight. “Trump was right,” he remarked. “The issue is that we all should have been right.”
