Running back Jonathan Taylor has played his entire NFL career with the Indianapolis Colts. As his contract approaches its end, questions arise regarding his future with the team.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Taylor addressed his current situation. He expressed his desire to remain with the Colts and shared updates on a potential contract extension.

“Oh yeah, definitely,” Taylor affirmed regarding ongoing extension talks. “Last time, just understanding that, hey, some people are gonna run with some of the media narratives, some people won’t. But just know the true Indianapolis fans, they’ll be able to see through the weeds and understand exactly what’s going on and not believe everything that they read.”

“Hopefully so (there is momentum building for an extension). But at this time, we are in minicamp, trying to work on getting better, obviously still preparing with the body, gotta hit the training hard. Like I said, I’ve already expressed that I want to be a Colt for life, even throughout the years. So hopefully, they feel the same.”

The Colts have committed $202 million to extending contracts for several players. In March, wide receiver Alec Pierce received a four-year, $114 million deal after his rookie contract. Additionally, quarterback Daniel Jones, who joined the team last year on a one-year deal, was retained despite a season-ending Achilles injury in 2025. The Colts placed a transition tag on him, agreeing to a two-year, $88 million contract.

Jonathan Taylor is entering the final year of his three-year, $42 million contract signed in 2023. With recent high-value extensions, there’s speculation on whether the Colts will add Taylor to this list before the 2026 season begins.

Reviewing Jonathan Taylor’s Time with the Colts

The Colts selected Jonathan Taylor with the 41st overall pick in the 2020 draft. In his rookie season, he played 15 games, achieving 1,169 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. Taylor has consistently performed over the years, amassing 7,598 rushing yards and 69 touchdowns in six seasons. He has been a Pro Bowler three times and led the league in rushing yards in 2021.

Despite his individual success, Taylor has only reached the playoffs once with the Colts, during the 2020 season, when they were defeated by the Bills in a wild-card game. Last season, the Colts ended third in the AFC South with an 8-9 record, missing the playoffs.
