Farming mogul Michael Abatti, who stands accused of fatally shooting his wife Kerri Ann Abatti in the head, is facing the possibility of being released from custody after entering a not guilty plea. However, the cost of his freedom comes with a hefty price tag of millions of dollars.

The 63-year-old is alleged to have committed the crime at their luxurious $1.6 million home in Pinetop, Arizona, amidst a contentious divorce proceeding. Kerri Ann was discovered deceased on November 20, marking a tragic end to their relationship.

Upon being extradited from California to Arizona, a judge decided to raise Abatti’s bond from $5 million to $5.5 million, indicating the seriousness of the charges against him. Despite the substantial amount, Abatti’s attorney, Owen Roth, revealed that his client is affluent but refrained from disclosing his exact net worth or whether he intends to post bail.

Desert Sun reported that Abatti’s 2018 crops were valued at over $10 million, painting a picture of his immense wealth and influence in managing the water supply in the California desert through his role on the Imperial County Water District board.

Despite his financial success, the motive behind the alleged crime was linked to a dispute over spousal support. Kerri Ann had requested $100,000 for legal fees and $30,000 monthly to sustain her lifestyle, whereas she was only receiving $5,000 per month. Abatti contended that the farm business was struggling financially, resulting in him agreeing to pay her $6,400 monthly.

The tragic incident unfolded when Abatti purportedly drove from California to Arizona to carry out the fatal act before promptly returning, as indicated by law enforcement. The evidence at the scene suggested that Kerri Ann was shot from outside the residence, with a bullet hole in a window being discovered during the investigation.

Following his arrest on December 23, Abatti was photographed in a protective vest designed to prevent self-harm while in custody. Roth, acknowledging the challenging circumstances, expressed concerns about the impact on Abatti’s family, highlighting his client’s love for his children and reserved demeanor.

As Abatti navigates the legal process, his legal team is prioritizing his health due to existing medical conditions that necessitate ongoing treatment and specialized care. The next court appearance is scheduled for March 17, with Roth committed to securing the best possible outcome for his client.

The unfolding saga of Michael Abatti’s legal battle and the tragic loss of Kerri Ann Abatti continues to captivate public attention, underscoring the complexities of personal and professional dynamics intertwined in this high-profile case.
