Julia Fox has made her stance abundantly clear: she will not stand by while sports superstitions unfairly target women. In particular, she has rebuffed those who attempt to hold Taylor Swift accountable for the Kansas City Chiefs’ dismal 1-2 record this season.
In an impassioned interview with Pedestrian.TV, promoting her latest psychological thriller Him, which immerses the audience in the high-stakes arena of professional football, Fox, at 35, vocally criticized the tendency to blame WAGS (Wives and Girlfriends of athletes) when sporting outcomes skew negative.
“The idea that a man’s defeat is somehow a girl’s ‘fault,’ that it falls on his girlfriend is just ludicrous. The irrational superstitions these men cling to often lead to women bearing the brunt of the blame,” Fox remarked during her interview on September 25.
She recounted how fans pointed fingers at Swift after Travis Kelce faced a loss, saying, ‘What? That’s crazy! But, alas, they love to blame women.’
Fox continued, “It’s amusing to think we wield such power. So, are you confessing that we’re strong?”
She acknowledged that women engaged with sports celebrities frequently endure intense public scrutiny, fostering a resilience born from constant visibility. “You eventually find yourself encountering gossip, which can be tempting to investigate,” she admitted, noting the immense pressure coming from the atmosphere. “It’s definitely not the lifestyle for me. I’ve developed a newfound respect for those in that world, particularly the women.”
Swift, 35, and Kelce, 35, have supported one another’s careers since they began dating discreetly in July 2023. Many NFL fans were astonished when the pop sensation attended one of his Kansas City Chiefs home games in September 2023; subsequently, she became a frequent presence at the stands, cheering him on throughout the remainder of the season.
Kelce returned the favor, attending her concerts globally, first seen in the audience in Argentina back in November 2023.
In a recent episode of his podcast, “New Heights,” Swift revealed the release date for her twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, and showcased the cover art on August 13.
