The Kansas City Chiefs are set to take their TV presence to new heights with the development of a six-episode docuseries in collaboration with ESPN, Disney+, and Skydance Sports. Produced by Words + Pictures in association with Skydance Sports, NFL Films, 2PM Productions, and Foolish Club Studios, this series will provide an in-depth look at the team through the eyes of current players, executive leaders, and coaches.

Filmmakers were granted exclusive access to the players during the 2024 season, which saw the Chiefs achieve a franchise-record 15-win regular season and secure a third consecutive trip to the Super Bowl. In addition to the current season, the docuseries will delve into the 65-year history of the franchise, showcasing the highs and lows experienced over the years through a combination of archival footage, photos, and new interviews.

Executive producer Connor Schell expressed his excitement about the project, highlighting the captivating nature of the Chiefs’ journey over the past decade. The series aims to not only explore the team’s modern-day dynasty but also pay homage to the legacy of Lamar Hunt, whose impact on the club and the league continues to be felt.

ESPN president of content Burke Magnus emphasized the storytelling aspect of the series, noting that it will go beyond the on-field action to showcase the emotional rollercoaster of building a championship-winning team. From the brilliance of star quarterback Patrick Mahomes to the leadership of head coach Andy Reid, the docuseries will capture the essence of what makes the Chiefs a global phenomenon.

This venture into TV is not new for the Chiefs, who have previously released online claymation shorts and collaborated with the Hallmark Channel on holiday specials. Directed by Kristen Lappas of Words + Pictures, the docuseries boasts a team of experienced executive producers and showrunners, including Connor Schell, Jason Hehir, Libby Geist, Aaron Cohen, and Matt Maxson.
