Kate Barton is venturing into pre-collections for the first time. This strategic decision marks a significant step for the young designer, who has been working to broaden her range and brand identity beyond her famed sculptural, liquid dresses. This season, Barton’s brand identity expands to include more daywear options such as skirt sets, tailored pieces, and knitwear, all while maintaining her distinctive aesthetic. “We still get to show off our tailoring and offerings that still feel occasion-driven, but also showcase our expansion into the more personal everyday looks too,” Barton explained.
This evolution results in a collection of elevated everyday essentials. A notable piece is a tailored, fitted vest featuring a keyhole detail at the chest and a signature Barton metallic emblem at its center. The vest is equipped with hook-and-eye closures throughout, allowing for adjustable fit based on the wearer’s preference, which may vary throughout the day. Barton suggests leaving the top two closures open for a more alluring appearance.
In recent seasons, Barton has employed a trompe l’oeil technique, frequently screen-printing her unique designs onto lighter fabrics. This season, an image of one of her liquid dresses is screen-printed onto a casual skirt set made of jersey material. The result is a look that appears more sophisticated from a distance while retaining comfort.
