General Hospital’s Kate Mansi will be departing the popular daytime soap opera.
In an interview with SoapSteph’s Daytime Dish, Mansi, 38, announced that her portrayal of Kristina Corinthos-Davis concluded last month, marking her final day of filming. “I’ve made the very difficult decision to leave General Hospital,” Mansi shared with the outlet in an article published on Sunday, May 24.
Having joined the soap in 2023, Mansi cited new projects demanding her “full attention” and the necessity to support her husband, Matt McInnis. “With my husband currently producing a series primarily shooting overseas, I needed the flexibility to travel while continuing to develop and work in Los Angeles,” she explained.
In the interview, Mansi expressed her gratitude. “I’m incredibly grateful to Frank [Valentini, the show’s executive producer], ABC, and our writers for the care they gave Kristina,” she said. “It’s been such a meaningful and unforgettable ride. I’ve loved being a fiery Corinthos-Davis girl in such a phenomenal family.”
Valentini, 63, commented on Mansi’s leave, expressing happiness for her new beginning. “We love Kate and support her decision to leave. The door is always open, and we appreciate all that she added to the show these past three years,” he shared with the outlet.
Mansi, who gained fame as Abigail Deveraux on Days of Our Lives from 2011 to 2020, also spoke about what attracted her to General Hospital. “When Frank first approached me about the role, two things deeply resonated with me: the opportunity to show my support for the queer community by playing an LGBTQ+ character, and to help tell an endometriosis storyline,” the actress said. “Together, I truly feel we honored both of those stories in a way that mattered.
She concluded, “Now, it feels like the right time for both Kristina and me to step into new adventures.”
Earlier this year, General Hospital star Steve Burton announced a brief hiatus from his role as Jason Morgan to focus on a new marriage and family time. Valentini reiterated his support at that time. “We love Steve and I am glad the show worked it out so he can get some personal time with his family,” Valentini told Soap Opera Digest in a statement. “We have some great Jason stories leading up to spring and look forward to his return in the summer.”
The General Hospital cast has seen several returns recently, including Kirsten Storm resuming her role as Maxie Jones in February after a leave due to a brain aneurysm.
