Katharine McPhee seems puzzled by Chrishell Stause‘s recent comments.
Earlier this month, TikTok user Jordy Cray shared a video alleging that McPhee’s personal and professional life is “one of the mcmessiest ones out there,” highlighting the American Idol alum’s public relationships and controversies.
“One day she will find her real inner confidence but it wonât come until after she is disgarded [sic] enough times by the problematic men she backs,” wrote Stause, 44, in the comments section of the video. “An insecure woman will steal your man, and give the worst advice.”
Many commenters were taken aback by Stause’s remark, which seemed unexpected. A TikTok user asked, “Chrisell [sic] do you know something we donât know?”
Some labeled Stause as “jealous,” while others praised her as a “queen” for her statement.
McPhee, 42, addressed the situation in response to E! News‘ Instagram coverage on Thursday, May 21, when a fan inquired about her conflict with Stause.
“Honestly I have no idea,” McPhee replied. “I am just as confused about this controversy as you Imao.”
Cray clarified in the comments that “Chrishellâs comment was moreso about Katharine endorsing Spencer Pratt for [Los Angeles] Mayor.” (McPhee has faced criticism in the past for her contributions to Republican Party candidates.)
Us Weekly has contacted McPheeâs team for further comment.
On social media, some speculated that Stause’s comment was a reaction to Cray’s focus on McPhee’s relationship history dating back to her American Idol days. After competing on the show in 2006, McPhee publicly revealed her relationship with Nick Cokas, marrying him in 2008. Their divorce was finalized in 2016, following McPhee being photographed with Smash director Michael Morris in 2013, when she and Cokas were already separated.
In 2017, McPhee began dating her longtime friend David Foster, and they became engaged the following year.
In July 2018, McPhee addressed critics of their relationship on X, saying, “Yâall should be worrying more about registering to vote and midterms elections than whoâs marrying me. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.”
The couple married in June 2019 and welcomed a son in February 2021.
Throughout their marriage, McPhee and Foster, 76, have faced comments about their 35-year age gap.
In a 2024 interview with People, McPhee discussed how she and Foster handle their age difference.
“Honestly, I think that weâre both very similar in this way,” she shared. “I welcomed my 40s, and David didnât have any conversations about, like, âOh, I canât believe Iâm 75,â or I didnât say, like, âOh, I canât believe Iâm 40. Iâm really mourning that.'”
“We didnât do any of that. So, weâre kind of both cut from the same cloth. Itâs like we sort of just accept life as it comes, and weâre not fighting getting older, because it just keeps getting better,” she added.
