Katie Holmes recently discussed her much-anticipated reunion with her Dawson’s Creek co-star Joshua Jackson for their new project, Happy Hours.
In an interview with Variety published on Friday, June 5, Holmes, 47, shared her surprise at the enthusiastic response from fans who were excited to see her and Jackson, also 47, back on screen together. “We were part of a show that many people watched, but I suppose we underestimated its lasting impact. It still surprises us,” she remarked.
Before securing Jackson for the film, Holmes, who is both the writer and director of the movie, reached out to him to see if he was interested in joining the cast, given their past and the roles they are known for.
Holmes noted, “It had been 25 years since we last worked together, and we’ve both evolved significantly. We wanted to explore different aspects of ourselves and not just reprise our old characters.”
Jackson agreed to participate, and Holmes reflected that working with him again felt very natural. “It’s like we have an unspoken understanding that still remains,” she said. “We collaborate effortlessly, guiding each other without needing to discuss it.”
Last summer, the duo captured the internet’s attention when photos of their filming in New York City surfaced. Despite the buzz, Holmes admitted they tried to maintain some privacy during production. “We aimed to avoid being recorded. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t, but it was manageable,” she shared.
Nearly 30 years ago, Jackson and Holmes were cast in Dawson’s Creek as Pacey and Joey. They dated briefly after the show premiered in 1998, but ended their relationship the following year. Despite this, they continued to work together on the teen drama, where their characters became love interests. They remained friends after the series concluded in 2003.
Earlier this year, Jackson reflected on reuniting with Holmes for Happy Hours.
In a March interview with Today, Jackson remarked, “We shared a significant period of our lives and have maintained our friendship over the years, but being on camera together again was magical.”
Happy Hours, envisioned as a trilogy, explores a couple reconsidering their faded romance. Jackson described the film’s narrative: “Katie crafted a beautiful story for us that outlines the three phases of love. We’ve filmed the initial, joyful phase of falling in love, and she’s currently editing it. We’re hopeful it will pave the way for us to continue with the remaining parts.”
