Kellie Pickler Wins Court Ruling Blocking Subpoena in Escalating Estate Dispute

In a significant legal victory, Kellie Pickler has successfully blocked a subpoena issued by her late husband Kyle Jacobs’ parents as tensions continue to rise over his estate nearly two years after his tragic death by suicide in February 2023 at age 49. The country singer and Jacobs had been married for almost 12 years before his passing.

The ongoing dispute over personal property that Pickler and Jacobs’ parents, Reed and Sharon Jacobs, claim belonged to their son has fueled a bitter legal battle. Despite Kellie declining to serve as the administrator of the estate, Reed and Sharon have been overseeing it, leading to disagreements over what items rightfully belonged to Kyle.

A detailed “List of Assets” compiled by Reed and Sharon included a wide range of belongings they sought to obtain through a subpoena. However, a Tennessee judge sided with Kellie on November 25, quashing the subpoena and calling it “unusual on its face.” The judge’s order stated that the items listed were not easily transportable documents, raising concerns about the legality of transporting firearms listed among the requested belongings.

Reed and Sharon’s lack of authority to issue the subpoena within the estate case was highlighted in the ruling, as they had not filed any complaint or petition against Kellie. The judge noted that they may pursue such action in a separate proceeding stemming from Kellie’s petition against them.

The public clash between the families came to light when court filings revealed that Reed and Sharon had allegedly removed items from Kellie’s home after Kyle’s death without providing an itemized list. This led Kellie to seek a court order compelling them to identify the items taken.

The assets listed in the subpoena included a substantial gun collection, watches, jewelry, musical instruments, a baseball card collection, and personal electronics such as Kyle’s work laptop and iPhone. Reed and Sharon dispute Kellie’s claims, arguing that their visit to her home was with her consent and that she is violating a subpoena requiring the return of estate property.

The couple’s prenuptial agreement has also become a key issue in the dispute, with the Jacobses seeking dismissal of Kellie’s petition on those grounds. As the legal battle continues, Kellie was granted a protective order blocking the public release of her deposition transcript or video.

The ongoing estate dispute between Kellie Pickler and Kyle Jacobs’ parents shows no signs of resolution, with both parties continuing to fight over the belongings left behind by the late songwriter. As the legal battle unfolds, the future of Kyle’s estate remains uncertain.
