The Park Avenue Armory is renowned for hosting massive installations, and Catherine Holstein and her husband Griffin Frazen recently orchestrated a spectacular event there. The couple unveiled a stunning 60-feet tall LED display featuring a mesmerizing array of letters, numbers, symbols, and occasional words, showcasing the bold vision of the Khaite brand. The event drew in a glamorous crowd during New York Fashion Week, with notable attendees like Post Malone and rising star Sarah Pidgeon from “Love Story,” who captivated the audience in a chic black dress and pumps reminiscent of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy’s iconic style.

Khaite has established itself as a leading brand, with its signature Arizona ankle boots and east-west Kye bag serving as status symbols for the fashion-forward elite. While denim and knitwear are staples of the brand, Holstein’s focus for this collection was on tailored pieces in black leather and ethereal dresses adorned with delicate details. Inspired by Orson Welles’s film “F for Fake,” Holstein explored themes of art, authenticity, and the arbiters of taste, infusing her designs with elements reminiscent of the dressed-up styles of the past.

The collection featured officer’s jackets embellished with decorative braids, lace blouses adorned with colorful flowers, and skirts showcasing Milton Avery paintings. Holstein also experimented with unique footwear, opting for pointy pumps and boots with a wrinkled, oversized aesthetic that challenged conventional norms. The fluid midi skirts and lace slip dresses added a touch of elegance to the collection, while the models’ talon-like fake nails added a daring edge to the overall look.

As Holstein pushes the boundaries of fashion with her thought-provoking designs, she continues to captivate audiences with her innovative approach to style. The juxtaposition of classic silhouettes with modern twists demonstrates her commitment to pushing the envelope and redefining traditional fashion norms. If Holstein can make her oversized footwear trendsetting, it would truly solidify her reputation as a fashion maverick. The Khaite brand’s latest collection is a testament to Holstein’s artistic vision and her ability to blend past inspirations with contemporary trends to create a truly unique and captivating fashion experience.
