President Trump’s Border Wall Funding: A Look Back
During his second presidential campaign, former President Trump made headlines by promising that Mexico would pay for “a piece” of his proposed border wall. This statement was met with skepticism and criticism, as many questioned the feasibility of such a plan.
In a 2023 speech, Trump addressed the issue, saying, “So with all those losers out there that say, ‘Trump never got the,’ you remember, I used to say, ‘Mexico will pay for the piece of the wall.’ I’ll say, ‘What’s gonna happen if they [Mexico] fight,’ I say, ‘The wall gets higher.’ We all had a lot of fun. But I said, ‘Mexico will pay for a piece of the wall.’ Well, there was no legal instrument to do that.”
However, just two years later, the U.S. Congress passed the president’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” (OBBB), which allocated a significant $46.5 billion for border security and construction. This marked a major milestone in the ongoing debate over border security and immigration policy.
South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem recently made headlines by signing a new contract related to border wall construction. In response to this development, Arizona Representative Andy Biggs expressed his support, stating, “As an Arizona native, I know how important it is to have a secure border. I’ve introduced legislation to ensure the completion of the U.S.-Mexico border wall, and I’m excited to see our nation’s leadership prioritizing this important action.”
