Apple has recently rolled out iOS 26.3, which includes a significant addition – a new Transfer to Android tool. This tool simplifies the process of switching from an iPhone to an Android device, replacing the previous dedicated Switch to Android app.

To access the Transfer to Android tool, users can navigate to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Transfer to Android. With this feature, transferring data from an iPhone to an Android device is as easy as setting both devices on the same Wi-Fi network with Bluetooth enabled.

The data that can be transferred includes photos, messages, apps, and eSIM phone numbers. However, certain data like health information, paired Bluetooth devices, and protected items such as notes and images are excluded from the migration for privacy reasons. The transfer process can be initiated by scanning a QR code displayed on the Android device’s screen.

It’s worth noting that this move by Apple to facilitate switching to Android is quite surprising, considering the company’s reputation for maintaining a closed ecosystem. However, this development aligns with efforts by both Apple and Google to make platform-switching more seamless, likely influenced by EU regulations promoting platform interoperability.

In addition to the Transfer to Android tool, iOS 26.3 also introduces support for high-bandwidth Wi-Fi in peer-to-peer settings, which is essential for the new transfer feature. The update also includes proximity pairing for third-party devices like Bluetooth headphones, as mandated by the EU. Another noteworthy addition is notification forwarding, enabling third-party smartwatches to receive notifications from an iPhone.

Furthermore, devices equipped with Apple’s own modem, such as the iPhone 16e, iPhone Air, and iPad Pro (M5), now have the ability to limit precise location sharing with cellular networks. These changes not only make it easier to switch to an Android device but also enhance the overall user experience for Apple device users.
