Labor Day, 2026 – The White House

By the President of the United States of America

A Proclamation

On this Labor Day, we celebrate the relentless dedication and hard work of American workers. Their exceptional skills and indomitable spirit have driven our nation forward through generations. They have built our cities, propelled our advanced industries, and spread American craftsmanship worldwide. Time after time, their resilience has helped us overcome challenges and achieve greater prosperity. The American worker deserves a government committed to supporting them, just as they have supported us throughout history, and we are fulfilling that promise.

Since resuming office, my Administration has been firmly dedicated to empowering American workers and families by strengthening the economy, enhancing manufacturing, and fostering unprecedented innovation. Last year, I proudly enacted the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, making the largest tax cuts in American history permanent, thereby increasing take-home pay for millions of families nationwide. This law also permanently establishes the small business tax deduction, enabling small business owners to deduct 20 percent of their qualified business income.

After years of harmful trade policies that weakened our industrial strength to the benefit of foreign nations, companies are now returning to the United States, investing trillions into our economy, and creating over 900,000 American jobs. Thanks to protective tariffs, our workforce is shielded from unfair foreign competition, ensuring their labor is respected, their businesses are protected, and their jobs stay within our borders. Through groundbreaking trade agreements, American manufacturing has seen continuous growth over the past six months, with more auto plants being constructed in the U.S. than ever before. To prioritize American workers, we are proposing a new fee on H-1B visa petitions, encouraging companies to hire qualified Americans before seeking labor abroad.

Our nation stands on the brink of a new era in American manufacturing, technological innovation, and economic prosperity, driven by the strength of American workers. Today and every day, we pledge to ensure their hard work remains the cornerstone of our nation’s strength and the foundation for an even brighter future.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim September 7, 2026, as Labor Day. I urge all public officials and citizens to observe this day with fitting programs, ceremonies, and activities that honor the contributions and resilience of American workers.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this fourth day of September, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-six, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fifty-first.

                              DONALD J. TRUMP
