Police have reported that a woman was sexually assaulted and robbed while jogging on a lakefront trail in the South Chicago neighborhood on Saturday morning.

The incident occurred around 6:05 a.m. when the 44-year-old victim was running in Rainbow Park near the lake at 79th Street. A man approached her from behind, threw her to the ground, sexually assaulted her, and then stole her cellphone before fleeing, according to CPD.

The Chicago Police Department described the suspect as a Black man in his 30s, approximately 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 tall, weighing around 170 pounds, with short black hair. He was last seen wearing a blue or gray shirt and blue jeans.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Area Two Detectives at 312-747-8271 or submit an anonymous tip at CPDTIP.com using case number #JK-293065.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings.

Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
