Liz Gateley, a seasoned TV executive known for her work on popular shows like MTV’s “Laguna Beach,” “The Hills,” and “Teen Mom,” recently left Spotify after a successful six-year tenure to launch her own media company, Damsel Media.

Gateley’s new venture is focused on creating content specifically catered to female Gen Z audiences. With Damsel Media, she aims to produce a variety of content across different platforms, including TV, film, streaming services, and digital media, with a strong emphasis on storytelling that resonates with and reflects the experiences of young women.

For Damsel Media’s inaugural projects, Gateley has teamed up with production companies 32 Flavors and Haymaker East to develop scripted series, although specific details are being kept under wraps for now as casting gets underway.

Gateley’s decision to leave Spotify was driven by her desire to return to longform storytelling, a passion that she has nurtured throughout her career. During her time at Spotify, she spearheaded various projects, including overseeing the Warner Bros./DC partnership deal that led to the creation of podcasts like “Batman Unburied” and “Harley Quinn & The Joker: Sound Mind.”

Prior to her role at Spotify, Gateley held key positions at Lifetime Television and MTV, where she developed and produced a string of successful shows. Her impressive track record includes hits like “You,” “Surviving R. Kelly,” and “Learning to Skateboard in a War Zone (If You’re a Girl),” which even won an Academy Award for documentary short.

Gateley’s extensive experience in the entertainment industry, coupled with her keen understanding of audience preferences, positions Damsel Media as a promising player in the media landscape. With a focus on empowering and inspiring young female viewers, Gateley’s new company is set to make a significant impact in the industry.

As Gateley embarks on this new chapter, she has enlisted the support of talent agencies CAA and legal representation from Weinstein Senior LLC. While Damsel Media currently operates without external investors, Gateley plans to solidify partnerships once the company has a few projects in production.

In essence, Liz Gateley’s move from Spotify to launch Damsel Media signifies a return to her roots in storytelling and a commitment to creating premium content that resonates with today’s youth. With her expertise and vision, Gateley is poised to leave a lasting mark on the media landscape with Damsel Media.
