Elderly Man Killed, Son Injured in Long Island House Fire
An elderly man tragically lost his life and his son was seriously injured in a devastating fire that engulfed their Long Island home late Sunday night, according to authorities.
Barry Garfman, 82, and his 42-year-old son, Dustin Garfman, were inside the multi-family home on Depot Road near Leyden Street in Huntington Station when the fire broke out around 11:15 p.m., as reported by Suffolk County Police.
Despite the efforts of five fire departments responding to the scene, Barry Garfman could not be saved and was pronounced dead on-site, police confirmed.
Dustin Garfman was rushed to Huntington Hospital and later transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he remains in serious condition.
Photos from the scene captured thick plumes of smoke billowing from the top floor windows of the home.

Authorities mentioned that the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but initial findings do not suggest any criminal activity.
