Robert Taylor, a beloved member of the iconic New Zealand band Dragon, has passed away.

Taylor joined the band in 1974 and contributed to hits such as April Sun in Cuba, Rain, and Are You Old Enough?.

News of Taylor’s passing was shared by AudioCulture on Facebook.

“AudioCulture mourns the loss of the talented lead guitarist, Robert Taylor, a longstanding member of Dragon,” the post read.

“Taylor’s guitar chords were instrumental in shaping the sound of the band’s popular track ‘April Sun in Cuba,’ written by keyboardist Paul Hewson on a broken guitar.”

In a brief reflection penned in 1977, Taylor shared snippets of his life story, from his upbringing in Waipukarau to his musical journey with Mammal and beyond.

Fellow New Zealand band Hello Sailor also expressed their sadness on Facebook, remembering Taylor as a “lovely man and a skilled musician.”
