In a striking reversal of expectations, Los Angeles has transformed from the stage for Donald Trump’s authoritarian aspirations to a vibrant hub of resistance. Today, the residents of LA are making their voices heard loud and clear.

One of the most significant ‘No Kings’ protests is unfolding in Los Angeles, where citizens are mobilizing en masse to deliver a resounding message to Donald Trump.

There was no doubt about the scale of this protest. At Pershing Square, crowds are gathering, and along Broadway and Hill Street, the numbers are swelling. As you head up Hill Street towards City Hall, you arrive at Grant Park, which is overflowing with people. The chief estimated tens of thousands, possibly even 100,000 participants, making it a considerable challenge to manage.

What’s particularly noteworthy about this protest is the eclectic mix of participants. First-time protesters are standing shoulder to shoulder with seasoned activists who have been fighting for various causes for years, even decades.

The issues at stake are as diverse as the crowd itself, spanning economic concerns, immigration policies, LGBTQ+ rights, and reproductive rights.

However, the unifying thread among these protesters is their collective rejection of Donald Trump and his presidency.

In a bid to incite unrest, Trump aimed for chaos in Los Angeles, but instead, the city has responded with such overwhelming numbers at City Hall that they have outmatched even the National Guard troops present, rendering them nearly invisible amid the throngs of demonstrators.

Most crucially, as observed in other cities, these protests are maintaining a peaceful atmosphere.

Donald Trump is facing a stark reality: he is not achieving his desired outcomes. Reports describe the streets of Washington, D.C. as eerily quiet during Trump’s birthday military parade, while millions of Americans are rallying at over 2,000 locations to express their discontent with his presidency.

If the Trump administration envisioned Los Angeles as a cautionary tale, they were sorely mistaken. LA is setting a powerful example of how to effectively reject authoritarianism.

The American populace is standing firm against the self-proclaimed monarch, rising up in defense of its democratic principles.

This trajectory threatens the Federal Treasury and Medicaid's long-term stability, and the imbalance between Medicaid and Medicare patients threatens to jeopardize access to care for our seniors. I pledged to protect and improve these important Government healthcare programs for those that rely on them. Seniors on Medicare and Medicaid recipients both deserve access to quality care in a system free from the fraud, waste, and abuse, that enriches the unscrupulous and jeopardizes the programs themselves. We will take action to continue to love and cherish the Medicare and Medicaid programs to ensure they are preserved for those who need them most. The Secretary of Health and Human Services shall therefore take appropriate action to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse in Medicaid, including by ensuring Medicaid payments rates are not higher than Medicare, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
