Former Love Island UK host Laura Whitmore recently shared a heartfelt tribute to her late friend Caroline Flack. In a post on Instagram on February 14, Whitmore reflected on their friendship by sharing photos and screenshots of text messages exchanged between them.
Whitmore explained that while trying to download WhatsApp messages from her iCloud on her new phone, she came across a lot of older messages from Flack. She described the messages as showing a side of Flack that was nice to remember, acknowledging that Flack had her struggles and demons.
The Love Island UK host first met Flack in 2011 when she took over hosting duties from her on “I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here Now.” Whitmore expressed her gratitude for Flack’s support when she later took on the hosting role for Love Island in 2020. She praised both shows as great productions with many people working behind the scenes.
Despite their friendship, Whitmore revealed that she never asked Flack about her legal troubles, respecting her privacy in that regard. She also declined offers to speak about the situation or participate in documentaries about Flack’s life.
Caroline Flack tragically passed away in February 2020 at the age of 40. Her death was confirmed as suicide, following a period of turmoil that included a physical altercation with her boyfriend Lewis Burton and impending assault charges.
In a poignant moment, Flack’s family shared an unpublished Instagram message from her where she took responsibility for the events leading to her arrest and maintained her innocence as a domestic abuser. Whitmore shared that the last messages she exchanged with Flack were filled with love hearts, and she hopes that Flack is now at peace in a better place.
