Lucasfilm leaders had some exciting announcements on the final day of the Star Wars Celebration fan event in Tokyo. Fans can look forward to a new batch of nine “Star Wars: Visions” shorts debuting on Disney+ on Oct. 29. Additionally, a longform series titled “The Ninth Jedi,” a spinoff of an earlier “Visions” short, is in the works from writer-director Kenji Kamiyama.
The announcement of “The Ninth Jedi” series was made by James Waugh, Lucasfilm’s senior VP of franchise content and strategy. Kamiyama himself took the stage at the event and expressed his gratitude to the audience for their support of the adventures of Kara and Juro in “The Ninth Jedi” and the upcoming “Child of Hope.” He then revealed that fans will get to see Kara’s journey continue in a new spinoff titled “Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi.”
“Star Wars: Visions” first premiered on Disney+ in 2021 with a collection of nine animated shorts, including “The Ninth Jedi.” The story follows the daughter of a lightsaber-smith who is pursued by dark forces while on a dangerous mission. The second season of nine shorts arrived in May 2023, with one installment titled “Screecher’s Reach” earning an Emmy Award for Directing in an Animated Television/Media Production.
The upcoming third volume of “Star Wars: Visions” will feature a short film titled “Child of Hope,” continuing the story of Kara and Juro from “The Ninth Jedi.” While a premiere date for the longform series has not been announced yet, fans can expect more adventures in this beloved universe.
In addition to the Star Wars news, Disney and Lucasfilm also revealed that “Fortnite” will be launching its biggest Star Wars-themed season yet with the release of “Galactic Battle” on May 2. This update will include the fan-favorite character Darth Jar Jar.
The Tokyo event has been a platform for generating excitement for upcoming TV, film, and gaming releases within the Star Wars franchise. With new content on the horizon, fans have a lot to look forward to in the galaxy far, far away.
