Lucasfilm leaders had some exciting announcements on the final day of the Star Wars Celebration fan event in Tokyo. Fans can look forward to a new batch of nine âStar Wars: Visionsâ shorts debuting on Disney+ on Oct. 29. Additionally, a longform series titled âThe Ninth Jedi,â a spinoff of an earlier âVisionsâ short, is in the works from writer-director Kenji Kamiyama.
The announcement of âThe Ninth Jediâ series was made by James Waugh, Lucasfilmâs senior VP of franchise content and strategy. Kamiyama himself took the stage at the event and expressed his gratitude to the audience for their support of the adventures of Kara and Juro in âThe Ninth Jediâ and the upcoming âChild of Hope.â He then revealed that fans will get to see Karaâs journey continue in a new spinoff titled âStar Wars: Visions Presents â The Ninth Jedi.â
âStar Wars: Visionsâ first premiered on Disney+ in 2021 with a collection of nine animated shorts, including âThe Ninth Jedi.â The story follows the daughter of a lightsaber-smith who is pursued by dark forces while on a dangerous mission. The second season of nine shorts arrived in May 2023, with one installment titled âScreecherâs Reachâ earning an Emmy Award for Directing in an Animated Television/Media Production.
The upcoming third volume of âStar Wars: Visionsâ will feature a short film titled âChild of Hope,â continuing the story of Kara and Juro from âThe Ninth Jedi.â While a premiere date for the longform series has not been announced yet, fans can expect more adventures in this beloved universe.
In addition to the Star Wars news, Disney and Lucasfilm also revealed that âFortniteâ will be launching its biggest Star Wars-themed season yet with the release of âGalactic Battleâ on May 2. This update will include the fan-favorite character Darth Jar Jar.
The Tokyo event has been a platform for generating excitement for upcoming TV, film, and gaming releases within the Star Wars franchise. With new content on the horizon, fans have a lot to look forward to in the galaxy far, far away.
