Luigi Mangione‘s legal team is alleging that the prosecution engaged in misconduct to obtain confidential information about him. They claim that federal laws were violated through a recent subpoena.
According to Luigi’s defense team, led by Karen Friedman Agnifilo, prosecutors allegedly reviewed documents related to Luigi’s medical care that are protected under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
The defense team alleges that prosecutors used a fraudulent subpoena to obtain this health information, bypassing legal protocols by directing the health insurance company Aetna to send the documents directly to them.
Luigi’s legal team asserts that the prosecution was aware that they were accessing privileged information, violating both HIPAA regulations and doctor-patient confidentiality.
It is claimed by Luigi’s legal team that the prosecution took these deceptive measures to gather information about Luigi’s medical history without the defense’s knowledge.
Luigi’s legal representatives are requesting a court hearing to address potential sanctions against the prosecution for their alleged misconduct.
Luigi Mangione was arrested in December on charges of the murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson. He faces murder charges at both state and federal levels.
