Kevin Krautgartner is a photographer whose work captures the raw power and beauty of crashing waves along the coast of Western Australia. In his latest series titled Waves | Ocean Forces, Krautgartner focuses on the clarity and textures of the water and shoreline, creating images that almost appear abstracted. By waiting for ideal weather conditions and swells, he is able to capture high-resolution photographs that showcase the intense and precise formations of waves.

Taking an analytical approach to waves, Krautgartner considers their physical properties and geologic impact while also aiming to evoke an emotional connection to the ocean. He explains, “Waves have always fascinated me—not just as shapes, but as fleeting configurations of energy shaped by global and local forces.” His work explores the intricate relationship between wind, swell, and underwater topography that results in visually striking wave formations.

Currently, Krautgartner’s work is on display at Livia Lisboa Fotokunst in Hamburg until the end of January. He is also preparing for another solo exhibition in 2026. For those interested in purchasing prints or exploring more of his work, they can visit his Behance, Instagram, or website.

Through Krautgartner’s photographs, viewers are able to witness the dynamic and ever-changing nature of the ocean. The images capture the momentary beauty and power of crashing waves, inviting audiences to appreciate the natural forces at play. By skillfully documenting these fleeting moments, Krautgartner’s work serves as a reminder of the vastness and complexity of the world’s oceans.
