The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade commenced on a rainy morning in New York City, with attendees donning ponchos and carrying umbrellas to enjoy the procession of balloons, floats, and dazzling performances.
This year’s event showcased new additions like Spider-Man and Minnie Mouse balloons, creatively themed floats highlighting zoos and pasta, a tribute to New York’s iconic coffee and bagels, and musical performances by Jennifer Hudson, Idina Menzel, and Kylie Minogue.
While the parade has evolved significantly since its inception a hundred years ago, with modern features and entertainment, it still retains traditional elements such as marching bands, clowns, and, of course, Santa Claus heralding the holiday season.
The 2024 parade boasted 17 giant character balloons, 22 floats, 15 inflatables, 11 marching bands, 700 clowns, and a lineup of talented performers including singers, actors, and sports champions like the New York Liberty.
Notable appearances included reality TV star Ariana Madix, hip-hop artist T-Pain, country duo Dan + Shay, Broadway veteran Lea Salonga, and more. One unique float showcased a battle between a knight and a dragon made of pasta, while another celebrated the Bronx Zoo’s 125th anniversary with animal representations.
Despite the rain, the parade continued as planned, with organizers closely monitoring wind speeds to ensure the safety of the balloon displays. The event, which began on Manhattan’s Upper West Side and concluded at Macy’s Herald Square, was broadcast on NBC with hosts Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, and Al Roker.
Overall, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade remained a cherished holiday tradition, bringing joy to millions of spectators and capturing the spirit of Thanksgiving in New York City.
