The highly anticipated revival of the beloved family sitcom, “Malcolm in the Middle,” is set to bring back original cast members Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, Jane Kaczmarek, Christopher Masterson, and Justin Berfield. However, one familiar face will be missing from the lineup as Erik Per Sullivan, who portrayed Dewey in the original series, has decided not to reprise his role. Instead, Caleb Ellsworth-Clark has been recast as Dewey for the revival.

Sullivan, who left acting in 2010 at the age of 19, was approached by Cranston about returning for the revival, but he politely declined. Cranston revealed in a recent podcast interview that Sullivan is currently pursuing his master’s degree at Harvard University. Despite his early success in the entertainment industry, Sullivan has chosen to focus on his education and academic pursuits rather than returning to acting.

The upcoming “Malcolm in the Middle” revival will consist of four episodes and will be available for streaming on Disney+. Fans of the original series can look forward to seeing Muniz, Cranston, and Kaczmarek back in their iconic roles as the dysfunctional Wilkerson family. Production for the revival began in April, with Muniz sharing a behind-the-scenes photo with Cranston and Kaczmarek to mark the occasion.

While Sullivan may not be joining his former castmates for the revival, his decision to prioritize his education and personal growth is commendable. As fans eagerly await the release of the new episodes, they can reminisce about the classic moments from the original series and look forward to seeing how the Wilkerson family has evolved in the years since we last saw them on screen.
