Mamdani’s vow to lower costs won him votes but his ‘fix’ is more lefty policies that drive them up

Zohran Mamdani is gaining support in the primary election by promising to make New York City more affordable. However, his proposed policies are actually in line with the Democratic policies that have contributed to the city’s high cost of living.

Mamdani’s plan includes initiatives such as free buses, CUNY tuition, childcare, and a rent freeze. While these ideas may sound appealing, they could actually worsen the affordability crisis in the city. For example, a rent freeze would put further strain on landlords of rent-regulated buildings, potentially leading to vacancies and financial instability.

Additionally, Mamdani’s proposal for free buses could result in reduced service quality and could turn buses into makeshift homeless shelters. This would negatively impact riders and could lead to increased fares for paying passengers.

Furthermore, Mamdani’s plan for a $30-an-hour minimum wage and increased city spending would likely result in higher costs for consumers. The city would struggle to fund these initiatives, potentially leading to tax hikes on businesses and further price increases for consumers.

In order to truly address the affordability crisis in New York City, leaders need to oppose the Democratic policies that have contributed to the high cost of living. Mamdani’s proposals may sound appealing on the surface, but they are not the solution to the city’s affordability issues. Voters should carefully consider the consequences of his policies before supporting him in the election.
